Abstract

The increasing prevalence of illegal substance abuse among teenagers is a significant social concern that demands immediate attention. Many young individuals become involved in drug use at an early age due to various social, psychological, and environmental factors. This study aims to explore the root causes of youth drug addiction and evaluate the effectiveness of existing preventive measures in Barangay Novaliches Proper, Quezon City. By identifying key factors that contribute to substance abuse, this research seeks to propose evidence-based strategies that can help curb addiction and support at-risk youth. The findings will serve as a valuable resource for policymakers, educators, and community leaders in developing more effective intervention programs to address this growing issue. This study employs a descriptive research design with a quantitative approach to gather relevant data on the preventive measures against drug addiction among youths in Barangay Novaliches Proper, Quezon City. Data will be collected through survey questionnaires distributed to 20 residents, 15 barangay officials, and 15 PNP personnel within the barangay.  Before conducting the study, the researcher will secure permission from the appropriate authorities to administer the survey. The distribution and retrieval of the questionnaires will be conducted on the same day to ensure efficiency and accuracy in data collection. Moreover, all ethical considerations, including informed consent, confidentiality, and voluntary participation, will be strictly upheld throughout the research process. The data collected indicates that 32% of the respondents were between the ages of 26 and 33, while 52% were female. The most pressing challenge identified in addressing youth drug addiction was insufficient funding and resources for implementing effective preventive measures. This issue was acknowledged by 86% of the respondents as the primary obstacle to successful intervention efforts.  To address this concern, the majority of respondents emphasized the need for additional funding for educational programs, counseling services, and treatment facilities. This proposed solution received overwhelming support, with 90% of the respondents agreeing that increased financial resources are crucial in enhancing preventive measures against youth drug addiction. The findings of this study highlight insufficient funding and resources as a major barrier to implementing effective preventive measures against youth drug addiction. To address this issue, the researcher recommends the following: Explore funding sources from government agencies, foundations, and private organizations that support youth crime prevention and intervention initiatives. Collaborate with local organizations, social service agencies, and healthcare providers to expand access to recovery and rehabilitation resources for at-risk youths. Implement community outreach programs to educate parents and guardians on their vital role in preventing substance abuse among teenagers. By adopting these measures, stakeholders can create a more proactive and sustainable approach to combating youth drug addiction in Barangay Novaliches Proper, Quezon City.
