Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of TikTok as an innovative educational tool for enhancing the speaking skills of third-year English major students at Bestlink College of the Philippines. While existing research has explored the integration of TikTok in language learning, studies specifically focusing on its impact on speaking proficiency among university students are limited. By examining how educational TikTok videos influence vocabulary development, fluency, grammar, pronunciation, and comprehension, this research aims to fill this gap and provide insights into the potential benefits of incorporating TikTok into language education. This study employed a descriptive research design to systematically examine the demographic profiles of third-year English major students at BCP and identify challenges they face in English speaking, including vocabulary, fluency, grammar, pronunciation, and comprehension. Data were collected through survey questionnaires, ensuring informed consent was obtained from all participants and that ethical considerations were strictly followed throughout the research process. Approval from the school administrator was secured prior to data collection, and the study adhered to institutional review board guidelines to uphold ethical standards in research involving human subjects. The study examines the demographic profile of participants, focusing on gender and age distributions, and identifies common challenges in English speaking, including vocabulary, fluency, grammar, pronunciation, and comprehension. Additionally, the research evaluates the effectiveness of instructional TikTok videos as a supplementary tool to enhance speaking abilities among learners. Integrating TikTok as a supplementary instructional tool has been shown to enhance English speaking skills among students. A study involving junior high school students at Mamplasan National High School found that viewing TikTok videos positively impacted learners' English speaking abilities, particularly in content, diction, pronunciation, and grammar. The engaging nature of 1-minute videos facilitated quick learning and knowledge retention.
