The respondents were selected using purposive sampling. This study utilized a descriptive research method and employed purposive sampling to select the respondents. A total of thirty-six (36) active student-athletes, both male and female, from two sports: basketball and volleyball, from Bestlink College of the Philippines (BCP) were chosen. Additionally, fourteen (14) male basketball players from Systems Technology Institute (STI), who are also active student-athletes, were included. The researcher used a face-to-face survey questionnaire to collect data and information from the student-athletes at both BCP and STI. Research into the connection between human behavior and motivation has spanned over a century. According to reputable literature, motivation is the primary driving force, with unconscious and psychological systems influencing observable behaviors. It arises from a combination of intrinsic, extrinsic, and socio-environmental factors, which collectively fuel effort and actions directed towards achieving goals, influencing performance, and shaping long-term decision-making. Intrinsic motivation, in particular, is generated when individuals engage in activities driven by enjoyment, interest, curiosity, self-expression, and personal challenges. Contribution incentives stem from a complex combination of extrinsic and intrinsic factors, rather than a single motivator. Engaging in extracurricular activities during college helps student-athletes make informed career decisions and cultivates a long-term commitment to being lifelong contributors.
