MONITORING AND MAINTENANCE OF HALLWAY CLEANLINESS AT 2ND FLOOR, MV CAMPUS AT BESTLINK COLLEGE OF THE PHILIPPINES: BASIS FOR RECOMMENDATION

Abstract

Some students today overlook the importance of cleanliness in their surroundings. While some are conscientious, others neglect to dispose of their waste properly. Cleanliness is vital as it helps prevent illnesses and, in some cases, can even save lives. Although research has highlighted the significance of cleanliness in various settings, more attention is needed to identify the key factors that influence hallway cleanliness and the most effective strategies for maintaining it. To address this issue, the researchers developed this study to monitor and enhance the cleanliness of the second-floor hallway at MV Campus, Bestlink College of the Philippines. The study employs a quantitative research design, utilizing quota sampling to gather data from 150 Grade 11 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students regarding their perceptions of hallway cleanliness on the 2nd floor of the MV Campus at Bestlink College of the Philippines. Quota sampling is a non-probability technique where researchers select participants based on specific characteristics to ensure that the sample reflects certain attributes of the population.​  To collect data, you are using a structured questionnaire as your primary instrument. This method aligns with quantitative research practices, where standardized tools like questionnaires are employed to gather measurable data from respondents. Designing clear and concise questions is essential to facilitate straightforward analysis. It's advisable to include both closed-ended questions, which provide predefined response options, and open-ended questions, allowing respondents to express their thoughts freely. Ensuring that response options are exhaustive and mutually exclusive enhances the reliability of the data collected. ​ The study indicates that respondents evaluate hallway cleanliness based on corridor etiquette, cleaning materials, and waste segregation. Additionally, they contribute to maintaining cleanliness by enhancing ambiance, ensuring safety, and promoting good habits.​  These findings align with best practices for maintaining cleanliness in educational institutions. Establishing regular cleaning routines, utilizing high-quality and eco-friendly cleaning products, and providing proper training for cleaning staff are essential components of an effective cleaning strategy. Furthermore, implementing a comprehensive cleaning schedule that addresses both routine and deep cleaning tasks ensures all areas receive appropriate attention. ​ The study offers valuable insights into the monitoring and maintenance of hallway cleanliness on the 2nd floor of the MV Campus at Bestlink College of the Philippines. The findings highlight several key areas:​  Corridor Etiquette: Respondents emphasized the importance of maintaining proper behavior in the hallways, including refraining from littering and respecting shared spaces.​  Cleaning Materials: The availability and use of appropriate cleaning supplies were identified as crucial for effective cleanliness maintenance.​  Waste Segregation: Proper sorting of waste was recognized as essential for maintaining cleanliness and promoting environmental sustainability.​  Additionally, respondents noted the following aspects that contribute to hallway cleanliness:​  Ambiance: A clean and pleasant environment enhances the overall atmosphere of the hallways.​  Safety: Ensuring that hallways are free from obstructions and hazards is vital for the well-being of all occupants.​  Good Habits: Cultivating habits such as regular cleaning and mindfulness of one's surroundings contributes to sustained cleanliness.​  A study conducted at Bestlink College of the Philippines identified factors influencing the cleanliness of stairs and hallways, including student discipline, awareness of proper waste disposal, and the effectiveness of community service programs in promoting cleanliness. ​   Based on these findings, the researchers recommend implementing community service programs to improve cleanliness, providing additional trash bins in hallways and stairways, installing signage to remind students to dispose of waste properly, and educating students about the rules and regulations regarding cleanliness maintenance. ​   Integrating these recommendations can foster a collaborative approach to maintaining a clean, safe, and conducive learning environment at Bestlink College of the Philippines.
