Abstract

Student employment is a common phenomenon in many countries, including the Philippines, where economic constraints often drive college students to work while studying. Currently, around 8% of college students in the Philippines are employed. McDonald's Philippines, in particular, provides opportunities for over 16,000 underprivileged youth since 2011. However, the impact of student employment on the operational performance of businesses like McDonald's remains underexplored. This study, titled "Exploring the Impact of Student Employment on Store Operational Performance at Selected Golden Arches Development Corporation Branches: Basis for an Improvement Plan," aims to fill this gap. By examining the effects of student workers on the performance of McDonald's branches, the research seeks to provide valuable insights and recommendations for improving both the student employment experience and the operational efficiency of businesses that hire students.        . This study utilized a correlational research design to gather data from natural settings efficiently. Purposive sampling was employed to select participants with specific characteristics relevant to the research. The collected data were analyzed using appropriate statistical methods to ensure validity, reliability, and accurate interpretation of the results.. The study's respondents were primarily aged 25-34, with 57.8% identifying as female and 28.9% as male. The findings reveal that student employees play a crucial role in enhancing store operational performance, particularly in service speed, order accuracy, food preparation compliance, and cleanliness. However, the study also identifies several challenges, such as high turnover rates, scheduling conflicts, limited availability during school breaks or holidays, and difficulties in maintaining consistent staffing levels during peak hours. These results provide valuable insights into the obstacles and benefits of employing students in the operational context. This study demonstrates a positive perception of student employees' contributions to service speed, order accuracy, food preparation standards, and store cleanliness. However, challenges such as high turnover rates, scheduling conflicts, and limited availability during school breaks or holidays were also identified. To maximize the advantages of student employment while addressing these challenges, it is recommended that Golden Arches Development Corporation develop strategies to enhance employee retention. This could include providing career development opportunities, implementing mentorship programs, and recognizing employee achievements. These strategies would create a more positive work environment and help retain student employees.
