Abstract

Ensuring proper sanitation and safety in food stalls is crucial in maintaining the health and well-being of students. The researchers aim to develop appropriate guidelines to enhance food stall efficiency in these areas. According to Presidential Decree No. 856, also known as the Code on Sanitation of the Philippines, food establishments must adhere to strict sanitation criteria. This study highlights the effectiveness of sanitation and safety measures implemented in food stalls, emphasizing the need for proper food handling to prevent contamination and the spread of diseases. Proper sanitation knowledge among stall staff is essential in maintaining hygienic food preparation practices. This study employed a descriptive quantitative research approach. A total of forty-six (46) students from the Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLED) program were selected using purposive sampling. The researchers utilized survey questionnaires as the primary data-gathering instrument. Data were analyzed using a five-point Likert scale, frequency, percentage, and weighted mean. Findings indicate that most students prefer rice meals and typically consume a single meal daily in the cafeteria. The efficiency of food stalls in sanitation and safety was rated highly, particularly in food handling, storage, preparation, hygiene practices, personal protective equipment usage, sanitation enforcement, tool and equipment cleanliness, and pest control. However, waste management received a slightly lower efficiency rating. The study emphasizes the need for proper hygiene training among food handlers to ensure food safety, consumer trust, and overall public health protection. This research highlights the effectiveness of sanitation and safety measures in food stalls at Bestlink College of the Philippines. The researchers proposed guidelines to enhance sanitation and safety practices, including stricter hygiene protocols, scheduled cleaning routines, proper waste disposal, and improved food handling procedures. Ensuring that canteen vendors are well-informed about sanitation standards and committed to maintaining cleanliness is crucial in upholding food safety standards within the school.
