The Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand presents various challenges for students, particularly in developing coping competencies and skills to meet academic demands. This study examines the difficulties faced by 150 Grade 12 HUMSS students at Bestlink College of the Philippines. It explores the factors influencing their choice of strand, the coping mechanisms they employ, and strategies to enhance their academic and career preparedness. The findings aim to provide insights that can improve career counseling and student support services. This study utilized a descriptive-quantitative research design, employing a simple random sampling method to gather data. The research highlights the growing interest of HUMSS students in careers that require flexibility and adaptability, emphasizing the importance of guidance and career support services in overcoming academic and personal challenges. Findings indicate that the "preparation" indicator received the lowest weighted mean of 3.39, suggesting that students feel less prepared for the demands of the HUMSS strand. Meanwhile, "interest" had the highest weighted mean of 3.67, showing that students are more motivated when their chosen strand aligns with their personal interests. The results suggest that interest is the most significant factor influencing students’ ability to cope with the challenges of the HUMSS strand. The study highlights the need for students to approach career decision-making with adaptability and an open mind, recognizing that their goals and circumstances may change in the future.
