Abstract

Extracurricular activities in the academic lives of senior high school students from the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) track at Bestlink College of the Philippines play a vital role in enhancing various aspects of student development. These activities significantly improve students' time management skills, boost their confidence, foster personal growth, and strengthen social skills. Additionally, they provide valuable opportunities for addressing personal challenges, while positively influencing academic performance. Engaging in extracurriculars thus contributes to a more well-rounded educational experience, supporting students in both their academic and personal endeavors. This study utilized a descriptive research design and a cluster sampling technique to gather data from 200 students from 11 different sections, using a survey questionnaire for data collection. The findings revealed that extracurricular activities significantly contribute to the development of Humanities and Social Sciences students. Students reported that their involvement in these activities positively impacted time management, confidence levels, personal growth, and academic achievement, while also helping them manage personal issues and improving their social interaction skills. These results underscore the importance of extracurricular activities in enhancing both the academic and personal growth of students. The study, the findings indicate that extracurricular activities have a notable impact on the academic lives of Grade 11 Humanities and Social Sciences students. Time management, confidence levels, and handling personal issues received the highest overall weighted mean of 3.39, signifying a strong correlation with improved academic performance. Personal development followed closely with a weighted mean of 3.21, showing its significant role in the students' growth. Lastly, social skills ranked with a weighted mean of 3.19, indicating a moderate, yet meaningful, influence on the students’ ability to interact with others. These results underscore the positive influence of extracurricular involvement on students' academic achievement and personal development. In light of the study's findings, an action plan has been proposed to enhance and maintain the role of extracurricular activities in the academic experiences of Grade 11 Humanities and Social Sciences students. The plan focuses on sustaining the positive outcomes these activities have on students' personal growth, time management, social skills, and overall academic achievement. It also aims to address areas for improvement and ensure that extracurricular involvement continues to support the development of essential life skills. The results of this study can guide future decisions, providing a framework for adjustments that better meet the needs and aspirations of Humanities and Social Sciences students.
