Abstract

This study evaluates the strategies employed by Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel assigned to Police Station Sub-Station 5 in Barangay 139, Bagong Barrio, Caloocan City, in response to hold-up incidents. Hold-up cases, characterized by robbery through force or intimidation, remain a significant concern in densely populated urban communities. The study highlights the role of local police in maintaining peace and order through both proactive and reactive measures, including community policing, crime prevention campaigns, and tactical response strategies. The purpose of this research is to assess the effectiveness of these policing techniques in addressing public safety and reducing hold-up incidents within the community. A descriptive research design was used to examine and evaluate the response strategies of PNP personnel from 2019 to 2024. The study involved sixty (60) participants, comprising fifty-five (55) residents and five (5) police officers from Barangay 139, Bagong Barrio Police Sub-Station 5. Data were collected through structured questionnaires focused on areas such as crime prevention, community engagement, and response efficiency. Findings revealed that the majority of respondents were residents aged 18 to 25. Both residents and police personnel generally agreed that the PNP’s strategies were effective in terms of crime prevention, incident suppression, logistical preparedness, and community involvement. However, the primary challenge faced by PNP personnel was the limited access to advanced technology and modern equipment. To address these concerns, proposed measures include regular training and seminars for police officers on updated response protocols, as well as enhanced community outreach programs and partnerships with local organizations. The study concluded that the local community acknowledged the efforts of PNP personnel in effectively preventing and responding to hold-up incidents. Despite positive feedback on existing strategies, there remains a need for improvements, particularly in terms of technological resources and equipment. Strengthening interagency coordination, expanding crime prevention efforts, and providing continuous professional development for police officers are essential to further enhance public safety and trust within the community.
