Community policing is a strategy that fosters collaboration between the police and the community to prevent crime, apprehend offenders, address ongoing concerns, and enhance overall community well-being. Barangay 171 in Caloocan City, a densely populated urban area, faces the challenges brought by rapid urbanization. In such settings, traditional policing approaches often struggle to manage complex crime patterns and maintain a consistent law enforcement presence. Community policing (CP) addresses these challenges by encouraging active participation from residents, businesses, local government units, and law enforcement agencies in tackling local issues and improving neighborhood safety. However, the effectiveness of CP can be hindered when residents are reluctant to share crucial information with the police due to a lack of trust. The researchers adopted a quantitative descriptive research design to assess the effectiveness of community policing in Barangay 171, Caloocan City. Specifically, the study aimed to evaluate the impact of community policing in the barangay during the years 2024–2025. The respondents were categorized into three groups: 30 community members, 10 barangay officials, and 10 personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP). Data were collected using survey questionnaires, which served as the primary research instrument. The questionnaire consisted of four closed-ended questions, and respondents were instructed to select their answers from the options provided. Socioeconomic and Technological Challenges The community continues to face several pressing socioeconomic concerns. Domestic violence and abuse remain prevalent, as reflected in frequent incident reports, underscoring the need for stronger protective and preventive measures. High unemployment rates further exacerbate economic instability, fueling broader social problems. Among these is teenage pregnancy, which often perpetuates the cycle of poverty, as young mothers frequently encounter significant barriers to completing their education and securing stable, well-paying employment. Expanding access to contraception and strengthening reproductive health initiatives are essential steps in addressing this issue. At the same time, technological innovations should be strategically harnessed to tackle urban challenges—such as improving traffic management systems—to enhance mobility, reduce congestion, and increase overall efficiency in daily life. Barangay officials should actively promote open communication with residents to foster trust and collaboration. It is essential that all community members, regardless of background or status, feel included and valued in policing initiatives. Law enforcement officers engaged in community policing should receive adequate emotional and professional support from their leadership to ensure sustained effectiveness. Future research could compare the effectiveness of community policing across various regions, cities, or countries, providing broader insights into best practices. Additionally, researchers should examine how institutional support—from police leadership, government officials, and local organizations—affects the overall success of community policing programs.
