Abstract

The public transportation sector faces ongoing challenges such as manual ticketing, fragmented passenger management, and a lack of real-time analytics, leading to delays and reduced customer satisfaction. To address these issues, the Bus Transportation Management System (BTMS) Core II was developed as an AI-driven platform integrating three key modules: Booking and Reservation, Passenger Information Management, and Ticketing Sales Analytics. By leveraging intelligent automation and data analytics, BTMS Core II improves operational accuracy, streamlines administrative workflows, enhances passenger experience, and enables data-driven strategic decisions in bus transport operations. The development of BTMS Core II followed an Agile Scrum methodology, progressing through four sprints focusing on UI/UX design, booking automation, passenger data processing, and sales analytics integration. Built on a microservices architecture with RESTful APIs, the platform supports independent management of modules such as ticketing, route planning, payment processing, and notifications. Embedded AI algorithms enable real-time travel pattern analysis, demand-based pricing, and seat occupancy forecasting. Stakeholder interviews, business process analyses, and rigorous requirements engineering ensured alignment with operational and regulatory needs. Comprehensive security measures including encrypted data protocols, role-based access controls, and incident response mechanisms were implemented to safeguard data and maintain system resilience and compliance. The implementation of BTMS Core II significantly enhanced operational efficiency and customer satisfaction in public bus transport. Booking and reservation processes were accelerated, reducing wait times and manual effort. Centralized passenger data management enabled personalized, data-driven engagement, improving responsiveness. AI-powered analytics provided insights into ticketing trends, rider behavior, and route efficiency, supporting targeted marketing and resource optimization. Features such as real-time service updates, secure digital payments, and intelligent routing streamlined operations and minimized friction. Rigorous testing confirmed the system’s scalability, robustness, and compliance with data privacy standards, positioning BTMS Core II as a reliable and future-ready solution for modernizing bus transport operations. BTMS Core II addresses persistent inefficiencies in bus transport operations by seamlessly integrating booking systems, passenger information management, and AI-driven analytics within a unified, intelligent architecture. The platform enables real-time, data-driven decision-making, enhances revenue tracking accuracy, and provides the scalability to meet changing urban mobility needs. Built on a microservices architecture and supported by automated DevOps pipelines, BTMS Core II ensures continuous integration, efficient deployment, and maintainability. This comprehensive integration marks a significant advancement toward smart, connected public transportation systems, delivering improved operational efficiency for providers and a faster, more reliable, and personalized experience for passengers.
