Abstract

Smart home technology, characterized by the integration of computing and telecommunication into conventional devices, utilizes machine learning, artificial intelligence, and big data analysis to confer cognitive awareness. This research focuses on implementing modern technology in a smart home, incorporating Amazon Alexa as a voice-activated virtual assistant, with the goal of enhancing automation and security features.

The background emphasizes the multifaceted nature of smart homes, integrating elements like visual intercom, home security, and remote monitoring. The study acknowledges the growing influence of the Internet of Things (IoT) in facilitating real-time connections between objects, people, and networks. Security challenges such as power outages, Wi-Fi disconnections, and system failures are identified, prompting the development of a prototype Smart Home System Automation. This prototype, featuring Alexa-based control of lights, security systems, and a solar power setup, aims to address previous design gaps and provide a more organized and portable main control system.

The significance of the study lies in its contribution to knowledge development in home security and automation. Homeowners benefit from automated control systems, cost savings through solar power, and heightened security. Individuals with mobility impairments find convenience in voice-activated controls, while neighbors can be alerted to intruders through alarm systems. IT practitioners gain insights into hardware and software aspects of sophisticated systems, and the environment benefits from energy savings. The research hypothesis posits the effectiveness of the Alexa-based Modern House System with fingerprint and camera security.

The scope of the study targets middle-wage salary buyers with small to medium-sized houses, limiting applicability to larger spaces or lower-income buyers. Overall, this research serves as a resource for future work in the domain of smart home technology, providing valuable insights for homeowners, practitioners, and researchers alike.
