There is an additional planting option that can optimize the planting strategy for urban
community landowners with limited space. It involves growing lovely plants in containers
inside the house or on terraces. Potted plants still need to be watered on a regular basis,
which takes time and can disrupt a person's daily routine. So, the researchers developed a
smart pot, which they called the Smart Solar-Powered Planter, which also shows an emotion
based on the condition of the plant and is also integrated with an app that they also developed
to address the problem and give convenience to anyone who loves planting.
The researchers surveyed ten respondents from Northville 2B, Bagumbong, Caloocan City.
Researchers used a purposive sampling technique to select respondents who were
"Plantitos" and "Plantitas" and suitable to answer the questions in the questionnaire. In the
Likert scale questionnaire, the researchers obtained an overall mean of 3.95, equivalent to a
94% overall average percentage. As for the descriptive interpretation, it shows "strongly
agree," indicating that respondents from Northville 2B, Bagumbong, Caloocan City, believed
that the innovative prototype was effective for plant growth.
Based on the data and findings from the prototype, using the ESP8266 NodeMCU as the main
microcontroller in a Smart Solar-powered Planter is deemed successful. The ESP8266
NodeMCU, as the main microcontroller, is fully operational, and all sensors and additional
parts are incorporated to track a plant's requirements. Thus, researchers recommend all
future researchers use the ESP8266 NodeMCU as their IoT microcontroller and "Plantitos"
and "Plantitas" to use a Smart Solar-powered Planter or any Smart Irrigation System as their
modern planting method.
