Abstract

Executive Order no 13, which aims to strengthen the fight against illegal gambling in the
Philippines, was issued. Executive Order No. 13 mandates relevant law enforcement
agencies to coordinate campaigns against illegal gambling and clarifies the territorial
jurisdiction of government authorities that issue licenses for gambling and online gaming
facilities. This study focused on how respondents assess the effectiveness of police in
preventing illegal gambling in Barangay Bagbag, Quezon City. Residents from Barangay
Bagbag, Quezon City, were selected using a purposive sampling technique.

The study revealed that lack of cooperation from the community is the main concern in the
effectiveness of police in preventing illegal gambling. This concern may be addressed by
encouraging the community to participate in preventing crime, especially illegal gambling, by
conducting seminars to raise awareness regarding the negative effects of illegal gambling in
the community. Further recommendations include implementing maximum tolerance,
increased police visibility, and inspection in secluded areas where crime is most likely to take
place.

Further research on a larger population may be beneficial in attaining more diverse responses
from participants. Other Criminology related concepts can be used in future research. Future
researchers can utilize this study as a resource to present a different approach and view on
preventing illegal gambling if they want to analyze the topic in the future.
