Abstract

In regards to the challenges inside the Valenzuela City Jail prior to the wellness and
development of each PDL, the welfare and development program can provide a solution, and
it greatly affects PDLs, not only in individuals but also in inmates in general. Welfare and
development programs are livelihood projects that help inmates with their food, housing,
medical costs, and other expenses. In educational and vocational training education, inmates
don’t have time to think negatively about their situation and focus on learning, while it also
helps them to do some decent work for a living after being in prison.


As presented in the table assessed by the respondents in terms of problems encountered, the
1st rank in the indicator is “Isolation and lack of Mental stimulation,” with a weighted mean
score of 3.34, interpreted as strongly agree, followed by 2nd rank the indicator is the “prison
crowding” Weighted mean score of 3.31 interpreted as strongly agree, landing on 3rd rank is
the “Inmates may experience depression, hostility, anxiety, PTSD, delusions, and paranoia”
weighted mean of 3.24 interpreted as agree. 4th rank is “Financial Problems,” with a weighted
mean of 3.19, interpreted as agree, and lastly on 5th rank is the “Negative relationship with
prison staff,” with the weighted mean of 3.16 interpreted as agree and the overall average total
weighted mean is 3.24 and interpreted as agree.
