Abstract

Several natural disasters around the world have affected its economic state. Asia is the most
disaster-affected region in the world. About 90% were affected by disasters. Due to its
geographic location, the Philippines is prone to several natural disasters, which the climate
crisis has made worse. Disasters have a significant impact on the workplace as well as on
the workers every year. In this study, the researchers would like to feature the barangay
employees of Barangay 175 Camarin Caloocan City and measure their level of
preparedness for natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, typhoons, and fires.
The findings of the study were drawn with the tally scores and their weighted mean in the
indicators of the survey questionnaires. In the demographic profile of the respondents,
including the age, gender, job position, and number of seminars or meetings attended
related to natural disasters, most of the barangay members are aged 40 years old and
above, which shows 40%. Throughout the service, only 6 out of 30 respondents have
attended ten or more seminars or meetings on natural disaster preparedness. Nonetheless,
the respondents strongly agreed about knowing the level of preparedness for earthquakes,
floods, typhoons, and fire. The respondents also agreed to the proposed guidelines, which
include the problems that the barangay encountered, its objectives, and the activities that
barangay 175 could do if such a disaster happened. In addition, this guideline could help the
barangay to reassess its existing disaster-preparedness plan and consider the researcher’s
output towards improvement.
According to the findings, the employees are vulnerable in times of unforeseen events like
natural disasters. Some of the respondents have attended seminars or meetings only once
or thrice throughout their service in the barangay. The researchers made an emerging guide
for Barangay 175 Camarin, Caloocan City, which serves as the proposal and are considering
implementing it in the barangay. Employees are the foundation of an organization.
Therefore, the barangay should implement training by assessing their knowledge about
natural disaster- preparedness. Consider re-assessing the perception of each employee by
conducting quarterly assessments about what they know, what they do not know, and what
they want to understand about natural disasters.
