Effects of Using English Language on Academic Performance of Grade 12 HUMSS Strand Students at Bestlink College of the Philippines

Abstract

English Language is a very broad and difficult language for most people. Students are suffering every time they do not understand the English word that they have heard or read. This study focused on the effects of using the English language on the academic performance of Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS)Strandstudents at Bestlink College of the Philippines. This study used a qualitative method. The researchers used a survey questionnaire to gather information from Grade 12 HUMSSStrandstudents. This research questionnaire will help gather ideas or information easily. The researchers used a random technique to select our respondents. This research was conducted inside the Bestlink College of the Philippines. The data gathered from the questionnaire served as the primary data, and the data gathered from literature and studies were the secondary data. Results showed that the assessment on the importance to know the effects of using the English language with a composite average of 3.85, which mostly affected the academic performance of the students. Other factors are English comprehension, with a composite average of 3.52, oral communication with the composite average of 3.5. The last factor is an examination with a composite average, with the composite average of 3.36, which was interpreted as undecided. The research found that using the English language affected the academic performance, especially students who are ashamed in public speaking and students that do not take their study seriously. The researchers suggested that teachers should give time to their students to read books or make a list of unfamiliar words and write down the definition of each word and let them study and learn those words.
