Abstract

Higher education is increasingly promoting and using the student- centered approach as a teaching strategy. Through active learning and several diverse teaching techniques, this strategy changes the traditional role of teachers from information providers to learning facilitators.

The students are now responsible for their own learning, not the professors. Teachers design learning environments that inspire students to take ownership of their education. The focus of learning in this method is the learner. This survey research conducted to find out “The Effects of Student- Centered Approach in Academic Performances of Selected 3rd Year BSED student at Bestlink College of the Philippines. The population of the study consist of section 3101,3102 and 3103 English major students. Through the process of purposive sampling, a total member of 50 students were selected to participate to participate in the study. The main instrument that will be used in the study is the survey questionnaire to gather factual and accurate data needed to answer the questions. The questionnaire is a means of gathering data or information about the respondents and their input regarding the proposed problem. The questionnaire is composed of the following: Pertains to the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age, gender, and section. Student-Centered Approach can be assessed by the respondents in terms of discussion, activities, and assignment. The factors that affect the academic performances of the respondents in terms of attendance, recitation, and examination. And the suggestions and recommendations of the respondents to improve the student-centered approach and their academic performance. After the collection of the distributed questionnaires, the information gathered were tabulated and process manually, with the use of computers the interpretation of data become more precise which gave the researcher an interpretation of the matrix tables.
