Abstract

This research investigates the impact of family support and intervention on children in conflict with the law in Barangay San Agustin, Novaliches, Quezon City. A child in conflict with the law can have far-reaching effects not only on the child but also on their family, community, and society. The study aims to explore how family involvement and intervention can influence the outcomes for these children, potentially aiding in rehabilitation and reducing the negative consequences for both the child and those around them. This study used the descriptive method to collect data from respondents. The aim is to understand how respondents have addressed the issue of Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) and explore strategies and methods currently being used to reduce this phenomenon. The research focuses on the relationships between three key groups: twenty (20) Barangay officials, twenty (20) residents of Barangay San Agustin, Novaliches, Quezon City, and twenty (20) PNP officers. These groups play a crucial role in efforts to reduce CICL in Barangay San Agustin, Novaliches, Quezon City. The findings of this study reveal that the majority of respondents "strongly agree" with the challenges encountered while handling Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL). Specifically, respondents identified the difficulty of balancing the protection of CICL with ensuring public safety. In assessing the impact of family support and intervention on CICL, several key insights emerged: Reducing Risk Factors: Respondents noted that a nurturing and supportive family environment can help reduce risk factors such as neglect, abuse, and family dysfunction.  Enhancing Awareness: It was emphasized that family support plays a crucial role in fostering emotional resilience by improving awareness of emotions and coping mechanisms.  Strengthening Crime Prevention: The inclusion of the CICL’s family in restorative justice practices was identified as an effective way to promote rehabilitation and accountability.  Respondents also agreed on several solutions and recommendations, including providing educational and vocational opportunities for youth to help prepare them for a successful future. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of encouraging young people to take responsibility for their actions, offer apologies to victims, and learn from their mistakes. The findings of this study underscore the crucial role of family support and interventions in addressing Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) in Barangay San Agustin, Novaliches, Quezon City. The study highlights how family involvement can significantly reduce the number of youths classified as CICL. Additionally, the study offers respondents valuable insights and strategies for effectively managing CICL cases and preventing the rise in youth involvement in criminal activities.
