Abstract

Republic Act 10586, commonly referred to as the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act, was established in 2013. This law imposes penalties on individuals who operate vehicles while under the influence of alcohol, dangerous drugs, and similar substances, serving multiple purposes within its framework. This research study will focus on the issue of drunk driving, particularly as the use of alcohol as a coping mechanism for personal issues continues to rise. Unfortunately, this trend is linked to an increase in road accidents, especially among intoxicated drivers. Consequently, we have chosen this topic to help reduce accidents caused by drunk driving. Furthermore, we aim to raise awareness about Republic Act 10586, also known as the Anti-Drunk Driving Law of 2013, to help decrease incidents related to this behavior. Our goal goes beyond merely educating drivers; we also intend to equip traffic enforcers with the knowledge necessary to reduce accidents associated with drunk driving. According to data from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, enforcing this law is vital in tackling the high rate of serious auto accidents, particularly those occurring between midnight and six in the morning, when incidents of drunk driving are most common. This study was conducted in San Agustin, Novaliches, Quezon City, and included fifteen (15) LTO officers and thirty-five (35) randomly selected motorists. The researchers utilized a survey questionnaire as the main instrument for gathering important data and pertinent information. The results of this study suggest that Republic Act 10586 is being implemented effectively; however, the findings also revealed various challenges encountered by the respondents that affect the community. The researchers propose the following actions: increase awareness of the dangers and legal consequences of drunk driving, establish sobriety checkpoints in strategic locations during peak traffic times, and foster partnerships with local communities, businesses, and organizations to promote responsible alcohol consumption. Furthermore, individuals caught violating these laws should be mandated to provide support services to victims of drunk driving and their families.
