Abstract

A smart home is a residence equipped with devices that can be controlled remotely and automated to enhance comfort, convenience, and energy efficiency. It may include a hybrid power supply system that utilizes both battery and mains electricity for continuous power availability.   Additionally, smart homes often incorporate vibration sensors to detect physical disturbances, providing an added layer of safety and security. Live monitoring of the premises can be achieved through the integration of an ESP32-CAM, allowing for remote access and real-time surveillance. This study was conducted at 178 Vanguard Street, Camarin, Caloocan City, with fifty middle-class families. It employed an experimental prototyping method to capture design concepts, refine them, and validate them before finalizing the product. Purposive sampling was used to select units based on specific characteristics. Data was collected through an online survey questionnaire distributed via a Google link. The findings of the study show that using the ESP8266 microprocessor in the prototype was effective and beneficial. Respondents provided positive feedback on the benefits and user-friendliness of the smart home automation system. The results and data analysis support these conclusions, with an average mean score of 3.72 for system functionality and 3.78 for reliability, indicating a favorable perception among participants. In response to the study, the respondents provided valuable suggestions for further improvement. These recommendations include enhancing motion sensor capabilities and implementing a recording stream feature for the camera. Additionally, refining the door lock system was highlighted as an area for development.   The researcher recommends promoting the use of smart home automation among respondents, emphasizing its potential benefits in terms of convenience, particularly for individuals with disabilities and the elderly.   Furthermore, the researcher emphasizes the importance of prioritizing user safety and security when utilizing the smart home automation system.
