Abstract

A crucial part of pursuing a career is selecting a strand that aligns with one’s aspired profession. According to Holland’s theory, individuals tend to choose a strand that matches their future career goals, allowing them to work alongside like-minded individuals and thrive in environments suited to their interests and skills. To determine the scope and range of this study, we employed a descriptive research design and used quota sampling as our sampling technique. The Slovin formula was applied to calculate the sample size, resulting in 125 Grade 12 Senior High School students from different strands at Bestlink College of the Philippines.   A survey questionnaire served as the primary instrument for data collection. Additionally, statistical tools such as frequency, percentage, ranking, and mean were used to analyze the gathered data. A Likert scale was also utilized to measure respondents' opinions. The study included 125 participants, representing 100% of the sample, who fell within a specific age range and gender. This research examined three key aspects: Changing Goals, Mismatched Interest, and Internal Expectations. The findings revealed that the Internal Expectations category had an overall weighted mean of 33.22, interpreted as "Agree." The Mismatched Interest category produced an overall weighted mean of 3.29, while the Changing Goals category had a weighted mean of 3.26, interpreted as "Strongly Agree."   These results provide valuable insights into how participants perceive and experience these factors. Moreover, the findings suggest that selecting a strand aligned with one's career choice is beneficial in terms of familiarity and preparedness. In a nutshell, this study provides valuable insights into various factors, including internal expectations, mismatched interests, shifting goals, and the significance of selecting an appropriate course strand. The majority of respondents (55.2%) were female, and the largest age group (82.4%) fell between 17 and 18 years old.   The findings highlight the importance of adapting to change and exploring new opportunities for success. Additionally, choosing a strand aligned with their career choice proves beneficial in terms of familiarity and preparedness.
