Abstract

In Barangay Payatas, Quezon City. Young people hold varied opinions about the police, both positive and negative, influenced by current societal issues. One key factor contributing to negative perceptions is the lack of proper parental guidance, which shapes their attitude toward law enforcement. Police Community Relations (PCR) programs are designed to bridge the gap between the police and the community, fostering a harmonious relationship. The study was conducted using survey questionnaires to gather data from 25 youth respondents and 25 police officers in Barangay Payatas. Respondents were randomly selected to ensure diverse perspectives. The data was analyzed using percentage and weighted mean calculations. The study sought to understand the influences shaping youth opinions about the police and the impact of community relations. The results were presented based on the research problems outlined in Chapter 1, using tabular data, analysis, and textual interpretation. The average weighted mean for Respect was 3.70 (Agree), Trust was 3.62 (Strongly Agree), and Confidence was 3.71 (Agree). The main issues affecting youth perspectives were poor parenting and growing up in a chaotic or negative environment, both ranking 1.5 (1st place). To address trust issues, the most highly ranked solutions were strengthening police-community relations and leveraging social media to promote positive police efforts, also ranking 1.5 (1st place). This study provided insight into the youth’s perceptions of the police and the challenges influencing their views. The findings highlight the importance of police-community relations events in fostering trust and improving engagement with young people. Encouraging youth participation in these activities can enhance their awareness of the police’s role in society. Additionally, the Philippine National Police (PNP) should collaborate with Barangay Payatas residents to strengthen community relations and promote mutual trust.
