Abstract

Parental engagement involves guiding and supporting children’s academic progress while recognizing the potential challenges of high expectations. This study aims to raise awareness among parents about how their involvement influences their children's academic performance. According to UNICEF (2021), parental involvement has a significant impact on a child's educational success. This study adopted a correlational research design and employed a quantitative approach. A total of 60 Grade 5 students from GSIS Elementary School were selected as respondents using purposive sampling. To analyze the data, the study utilized statistical tools such as percentage, weighted mean, ranking, frequency, and Pearson r correlation coefficient. The survey findings revealed that most respondents were between 10 and 11 years old, with 56% being female. Additionally, 46% of their families had a monthly income below ₱5,000.  Regarding parental involvement, the study found that the "nurture" aspect received a weighted mean of 3.84 (Strongly Agree), "affective" 3.41 (Agree), "boundaries" 3.22 (Agree), and "interaction" 3.12 (Agree), resulting in an overall weighted mean of 3.40 (Agree).  For factors affecting academic performance, "attendance" had a weighted mean of 3.42 (Agree), "class participation" 3.84 (Strongly Agree), "assigned tasks/homework" 3.09 (Agree), and "examinations" 3.59 (Strongly Agree), with an overall weighted mean of 3.49 (Agree).  The results indicate a significant relationship between parental involvement and academic performance, with an r-value of 0.6999, highlighting the strong influence of parental engagement on students' academic success. The study highlights a significant correlation between parental involvement and academic performance, shaped by factors such as nurture, affective support, boundaries, and interaction, as outlined in Baumrind's Theory. According to Candelanza et al. (2020), parenting styles significantly influence a child's future success in relationships, including those with peers, romantic partners, and their own future children.  This study recommends that students consider their parents' guidance, alongside support from teachers, administrators, graduates, local government units, and future researchers, to enhance both academic achievement and effective parenting strategies. Furthermore, an improvement plan was developed to examine the relationship between parental involvement and academic performance, providing actionable insights for fostering student success.
