This study investigates the impact of off-campus activities on the skill development and employability of Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) students. Engaging in work-integrated learning (WIL) experiences, such as internships and industry placements, allows students to apply academic knowledge in practical settings, enhancing their job readiness. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, integrating both quantitative and qualitative research methods within a descriptive design, to assess the impact of off-campus activities on skill development among Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) students. Hard-copy survey questionnaires were distributed to 80 purposively selected first-year to fourth-year students, ensuring participants had relevant experience with off-campus activities. This purposive sampling technique is commonly used in educational research to gather in-depth insights from specific subgroups. Participant confidentiality was strictly maintained throughout the research process, adhering to ethical standards in educational research. The study investigated the impact of off-campus activities on skill development and career advancement among Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) students. Despite challenges such as financial constraints—particularly affecting female students—participants demonstrated resilience, effectively leveraging off-campus opportunities to enhance essential skills including practical experience, leadership, communication, decision-making, and personal growth. These findings align with existing research on work-integrated learning (WIL), which emphasizes the benefits of combining academic studies with practical work experience. WIL has been linked to increased self-efficacy and the development of professional networks, significantly enhancing graduate employability. To address financial challenges and maximize the benefits of off-campus activities, it is recommended that educational institutions collaborate with industry partners to provide financial support initiatives and structured reflection opportunities. Implementing such measures can enrich the learning experience, better preparing students for successful careers in the tourism sector. Participating in off-campus activities significantly influences academic, career, and personal development. These experiences offer opportunities to cultivate essential skills, expand professional networks, and gain practical insights beyond the traditional classroom setting. Participation in such activities enhances competencies like communication, teamwork, leadership, and adaptability, all crucial for success across various fields. Moreover, these engagements facilitate networking, fostering meaningful connections with professionals, mentors, and peers, which can lead to valuable career opportunities. For example, alternative break programs provide students with immersive experiences that combine volunteer service with education on social issues. These programs not only contribute to community development but also promote personal growth and a commitment to active citizenship among participants. Additionally, engaging in nature-based activities like birdwatching has been linked to improved mental health, reducing psychological distress and enhancing overall well-being. Such activities offer accessible avenues for stress relief and personal reflection, contributing to a balanced and fulfilling college experience. Incorporating off-campus experiences into one's educational journey enriches personal development and enhances professional preparedness, leading to a more fulfilling and successful career trajectory.
