EXPLORING THE IMPACT OF CITIZENS' ROLE IN PREVENTING CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES IN BARANGAY NOVALICHES PROPER, QUEZON CITY

Crime is a continuous problem in urban areas around the world, hurting citizens' safety, well-being, and quality of life. While law enforcement authorities play an important role in preventing criminal activity, citizen participation is also critical. The study utilized a descriptive research method and a convenience sampling technique, which were employed for two groups of respondents: 30 residents of Barangay Novaliches Proper, Quezon City, and 20 barangay officials. From the results of this study, it reveals that the impact of citizens' role in preventing criminal activities in Barangay Novaliches Proper, Quezon City, in terms of crime reporting, active coordination with law enforcers, and awareness is interpreted as “Strongly Agree.” The problems encountered include some citizens not being aware of the crime rates in their area, and an action plan that can be proposed is increased police presence in the community to build trust, understand local issues, and collaborate on crime prevention strategies. This study recommended that understanding citizens' roles in crime prevention fosters safer communities. Research on barangay officials' involvement unveils insights into citizen participation and suggests policy enhancements. Collaborative efforts between barangay officials and law enforcers strengthen relationships for more effective support. Additionally, researchers refine their skills and strategies through engagement in this area, while future researchers benefit from the methodologies and insights provided by these studies for conducting similar research.
