Abstract

This study aims to examine the experiences of working students at Bestlink College of the Philippines, focusing on the challenges and benefits they face while balancing work and academics. With the rising cost of education, many students are compelled to work in order to support themselves and their families. These working students often encounter difficulties such as managing their time between work and school, handling stress, and maintaining their academic performance. However, they also gain valuable work experience, enhance their time management skills, and develop resilience in managing stress. The study will explore these experiences, identify factors contributing to their success, and provide insights into how their dual roles impact their overall academic performance and well-being. The research methods for this study will include a survey administered to working students at Bestlink College of the Philippines, along with a comprehensive review of relevant literature on the experiences of working students. The survey will collect data on the students' work and academic experiences, focusing on the challenges they face and the factors that contribute to their success. This approach will provide a deeper understanding of the balance between work and studies, offering insights into how working students navigate their responsibilities. The study revealed that the sample population was predominantly composed of individuals aged 18 to 24, with some representation from older age groups. The gender distribution showed a notable majority of female respondents, emphasizing the need to address gender disparities in academic performance. The participants had a wide range of work experiences, from minimal to several years of professional involvement, indicating the potential benefits of combining work with academic pursuits. Perceptions of their abilities and confidence levels varied, with some respondents feeling confident, while others expressed reservations. The analysis also highlighted the significant influence of social factors, such as isolation and lack of support, which appeared to overshadow the impact of their academic performance. The analysis of the age distribution within the sample reveals a diverse demographic, with both younger and older individuals represented, suggesting that age may have an influence on academic performance. The gender distribution emphasizes the need to address gender disparities in education to ensure equal opportunities for all students. The respondents’ varied work experiences highlight the importance of balancing work and academics, with potential benefits for career development. The findings also reveal a mixed picture of self-perception, with varying levels of confidence and self-doubt, suggesting a need to address factors that impact self-belief. Additionally, social factors such as isolation and lack of support were found to significantly affect individuals, often overshadowing academic performance.
