Abstract

This study investigates the processes involved in assessing crimes committed in Barangay Pasong Putik, Quezon City, focusing on the factors that affect crime assessments such as age, sex, civil status, and length of service. It also explores the challenges faced by respondents in the assessment process and seeks to identify possible solutions to improve crime detection and response. For many individuals, crime is a significant concern that alters their daily lives, whether they have fallen victim to a crime or are fearful of becoming one. The study aims to provide insights into how crime is assessed in the community and offer recommendations to address the problems encountered during this process. The researchers employed a descriptive research method to collect, analyze, interpret, and report data, aiming to describe and understand the population or phenomenon under study. The research focused on thirty (30) residents and twenty (20) police officers from Barangay Pasong Putik, Quezon City, during 2023 and 2024. Data was collected through interviews with each respondent using a survey questionnaire. Police officers were specifically selected to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the information gathered, providing a comprehensive perspective on crime assessment and issues related to crime in the community. The study's results reveal that the majority of respondents "Strongly Agree" on the importance of enhancing public awareness campaigns. They believe that educating the community about the value of cooperation with law enforcement is crucial for maintaining public safety and effectively addressing crime. This consensus underscores the need for greater community engagement and collaboration with authorities to foster a safer environment in Barangay Pasong Putik. The study reveals that the majority of respondents "Strongly Agree" on the importance of strengthening public awareness campaigns to educate the community on the value of cooperating with law enforcement for public safety. Based on these findings, the researchers propose the following recommendations:

Conduct a thorough assessment of crime-prone areas: Strategically install CCTV cameras in locations that provide the best coverage to deter criminal activity and enhance law enforcement monitoring capabilities.

Launch comprehensive public education campaigns: Raise awareness about crime, its underlying causes, and the consequences it has on individuals and communities. Such campaigns should also emphasize the importance of community cooperation with law enforcement in maintaining public safety.

Address the impact of trauma on crime victims and communities: Acknowledge and support individuals affected by crime, including victims and offenders. Implement trauma-informed practices in assessments to ensure that they are compassionate, supportive, and contribute to the healing and recovery process.

These recommendations aim to strengthen crime prevention strategies, foster greater community engagement, and provide better support for those affected by crime, ultimately enhancing public safety in Barangay Pasong Putik.
