Abstract

The study of disaster risk preparedness falls under the broader field of disaster or emergency management. It involves assessing risks, implementing mitigation strategies, developing response plans, and facilitating recovery efforts to reduce the impact of disasters on communities and infrastructure. This study examines the level of vulnerability of people and assets to disasters and explores strategies to enhance preparedness and resilience." This study utilized a descriptive research design to analyze and interpret the collected data. It involved the development, validation, distribution, and retrieval of research instruments, along with the application of appropriate sampling techniques. Statistical methods were employed to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data analysis." "The study found that most residents and barangay officials in Cotabato Street, Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City, are satisfied with the community's disaster preparedness. However, key challenges were identified, including outdated infrastructure (such as communication systems and healthcare facilities), financial constraints for emergency needs, outdated hazard assessments, and lack of coordination. To enhance disaster preparedness, the study recommends launching public awareness campaigns, providing disaster education, improving workers' skills in disaster response, establishing monitoring and evaluation systems, and conducting regular disaster drills to ensure community readiness." The Philippines, situated along the Pacific Ring of Fire, is highly susceptible to various natural disasters. While calamities are unavoidable, their impact can be reduced through effective preparedness and strategic government initiatives. This study found that most residents of Cotabato Street, Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City, are satisfied with the existing disaster preparedness programs. Active participation in disaster risk reduction efforts is crucial in minimizing casualties, reinforcing the idea that preparedness is the key to survival."
