Abstract

This study examines the role of police operations in crime prevention, with a particular focus on balancing law enforcement authority with community accountability. In light of rising crime rates, the research underscores the growing need for proactive strategies to ensure public safety. One such approach, establishment visitation, involves regular police visits to locations such as shops, schools, and community centers. These visits aim to deter criminal activity, enhance public trust, and safeguard vulnerable groups, particularly children, by fostering a safer and more connected community environment. The study employed a quantitative-descriptive research design to assess the role of police establishment visitations in crime prevention. Data was gathered through a researcher-made survey questionnaire, administered to 30 purposively selected respondents—comprising 15 Non-Commissioned Officers and 15 representatives from commercial establishments in Bagong Silang. The instrument covered respondents’ demographic profiles, perceptions of visitation impact on crime prevention, and the challenges encountered during these initiatives. The questionnaire underwent expert validation, including review by a licensed criminologist, to ensure reliability and content accuracy. Collected data were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, weighted means, and a four-point Likert scale. The study revealed that the majority of respondents were male, aged 34–41, and college graduates. Overall, participants strongly agreed that the PNP’s establishment visitation campaign in Bagong Silang is effective in enhancing crime prevention, reducing criminal incidents, and improving public safety. High ratings were given to police presence and visibility as key factors contributing to these outcomes. However, a significant challenge identified was the lack of cooperation from some business owners and employees. To address this issue, respondents recommended strengthening collaboration with barangay tanods to enhance surveillance and facilitate the reporting of suspicious activities. The study revealed that most respondents were male, aged 34–41, single, and college graduates. They strongly agreed that the PNP’s establishment visitation program plays a significant role in crime prevention. However, the lack of cooperation from some business owners emerged as a major challenge. To address this, the key recommendation was to strengthen collaboration with barangay tanods to improve surveillance and reporting. The findings further suggest that law enforcement agencies should regularly evaluate crime prevention strategies, foster stronger police–community relationships, and encourage business owners to adopt proactive safety measures.
