Abstract

This study emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach to crime reduction, integrating community involvement, preventive strategies, and law enforcement. It explores key crime prevention strategies, including Community Policing, Zero Tolerance Policing, and Youth Engagement and Prevention. The objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of these approaches as implemented in Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City, identify areas of weakness, and recommend improvements to enhance public safety and crime deterrence. The study adopts a descriptive research design utilizing quantitative methods. A total of 40 respondents, comprising 20 residents and 20 barangay personnel including the chairman, were selected through purposive sampling based on predetermined criteria. The demographic profile of the participants includes age, sex, and educational attainment. A structured questionnaire was used to gather data on the implementation and perceived effectiveness of crime reduction strategies within the community. The findings revealed that most respondents were aged 30 and above, with a balanced gender distribution and primarily single status and high school educational attainment. The crime reduction strategies assessed included Barangay Patrol, Coordination with Stakeholders, and Enforcement of City Ordinances, all receiving an overall rating of "Agree." Barangay patrols, particularly those promoting neighborhood watch initiatives, garnered the most favorable responses. While coordination with youth groups and enforcement of ordinances were viewed positively, notable challenges were identified, such as the limited integration of barangay patrols with higher-level law enforcement and insufficient resources, resulting in delayed response times. Respondents suggested regular assessments to ensure optimal patrol coverage and recommended stronger inter-agency collaboration and resource support. The study offers practical recommendations to strengthen crime prevention efforts in Barangay Holy Spirit. By identifying gaps and proposing actionable improvements, the research contributes to ongoing discussions on community safety and resilience. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, law enforcement agencies, and local leaders in designing sustainable and effective crime reduction programs tailored to the needs of the community.
