Abstract

This study focuses on the development of a Library Book Borrowing and Returning System for Sauyo High School to streamline library operations through automation. The system is designed to reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and simplify the tracking of borrowed and returned books. It eliminates the need for manual documentation by automating record-keeping and provides real-time access to book inventories and borrower records. This facilitates monitoring of book availability and overdue returns. Additionally, it allows for quicker and more efficient library audits through a centralized and secure database. The user-friendly interface aims to enhance the overall library experience for both librarians and students while promoting responsible borrowing behavior and ensuring organized, reliable information management. The researchers utilized the Waterfall Model from the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), which includes the planning, design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance phases. System requirements were gathered through interviews and market research to understand the specific needs of Sauyo High School’s library. Based on the collected data, a detailed system design was created. The system was developed using Java for programming and MySQL for database management, ensuring secure and efficient handling of library records. The implementation of the Library System significantly improved the management of book borrowing and returning records. It enabled administrators to efficiently update, retrieve, and organize records, eliminating the delays and errors commonly associated with manual processes. As a result, the system enhanced accuracy and overall operational efficiency within the school library. The Library Book Borrowing and Returning System effectively addressed the issues faced by Sauyo High School’s library in managing manual transactions. The automation of record management reduced staff workload and increased data accuracy, ultimately improving the efficiency of library operations. This digital solution modernizes the school’s library system, making it more responsive and reliable for users.
