LEVEL OF INFLUENCE OF ROBLOX TO COMMUNICATION SKILLS AMONG GENERAL ACADEMIC STRAND STUDENTS

Abstract

This study examines the role of Roblox, a widely popular online gaming platform, in shaping the communication skills of General Academic Strand students. It explores the effects of Roblox on various aspects of communication, including social interaction, verbal expression, and nonverbal cues. The findings aim to reveal how engagement with Roblox influences students’ confidence and ability to connect with peers and new acquaintances. To tackle this problem, the researchers utilized a mixed-methods approach that combined a literature review with empirical data collection. They investigated the impact of Roblox on verbal communication, nonverbal communication, and social interaction. Data were collected using surveys, interviews, and questionnaires. The survey revealed that 45% of respondents frequently use the chat box feature on Roblox, making it one of the platform’s most popular communication tools. Language barriers and challenges related to the chat function were noted as significant obstacles. Roblox demonstrated a strong influence on communication skills, with weighted means of 3.36 for verbal communication (interpreted as very high), 3.23 for nonverbal communication, and 3.36 for social interaction, indicating a high impact across these areas. Roblox’s chat boxes and language exposure were identified as major communication barriers. To address these issues, the study recommends developing guidelines for appropriate online communication, offering workshops on voice chat etiquette, raising cyberbullying awareness through seminars, promoting effective time management, and encouraging alternative hobbies.
