Abstract

Digital pop-up books serve as versatile instructional materials for teaching English and other subjects. They help identify areas requiring reteaching and reinforce foundational skills to improve student performance. By integrating diverse teaching strategies, these materials enhance learners’ visual comprehension and engagement. As effective remedial tools, digital pop-up books bridge learning gaps, boost understanding and retention, and actively involve students in the learning process. This approach supports deeper lesson mastery and promotes long-term retention through interactive and visually stimulating content. The researchers employed a quantitative, causal-comparative research design. Using purposive sampling, they selected 48 Grade 3 learners from Bagong Silang Elementary School as respondents. A 40-item survey questionnaire, administered as both pre-test and post-test, was developed to gather data. The collected responses were analyzed using various statistical techniques, including percentages, rankings, weighted and composite means, and the z-test to determine significant differences. The findings of the study strongly indicate that digital pop-up books are highly effective remediation materials for enhancing comprehension, improving retention, and increasing student engagement. Statistical analysis revealed a highly significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of Grade 3 Robin learners, with a p-value of less than 0.00001, underscoring the positive impact of digital pop-up books on reading performance. In light of these results, it is strongly recommended that educators and curriculum developers prioritize the development and integration of digital pop-up books as essential remediation tools. These resources can substantially augment students’ reading skills by fostering deeper comprehension and facilitating long-term retention. The study demonstrates that digital pop-up books are highly effective remediation tools that support a wide range of learners in understanding and retaining complex academic concepts. This approach is grounded in Main P.’s (2023) theory of visual learning, which highlights the critical role of visual techniques in enhancing comprehension and memory by engaging students’ cognitive processes. The findings emphasize the importance of integrating digital learning environments into foundational education, especially for young learners. By leveraging various teaching methods that foster visual learning, educators can revisit and reinforce fundamental skills, thereby significantly improving student performance and long-term retention.
