Abstract

The pandemic hits like a storm, it becomes the worst nightmare ever experienced by people all over the world. This phenomenon becomes life-changing, the COVID -19 virus is contagious and dangerous to the life of people. The pandemic infected not only the health but also the lifestyle of every individual. Due to rapid spreading, and government impulse restrictions that affected the educational sector, learners faced challenging times. Schools are closed, and teachers and students use a distant learning system where encountered network and signal issues, environmental factors such as noisy environment, and more. Researchers observed the impact of these unexpected changes on the academic performance of students aiming to gather data and facts from the respondents to view of what is the impact of the pandemic on the students. Hence, this study entitled: Impact of Pandemic on the Academic Performance of Selected English Major among Third Year Students at Bestlink College of the Philippines. The researchers arise with the following hypothesis. The condition and the academic performances of the students are greatly affected by the pandemic. There are challenges encountered by the respondents amidst the pandemic. 

The descriptive correlational-quantitative research design was used using a survey instrument. The respondents of the study were English majors of third-year students a total of fifty (50). Simple random sampling was used in choosing the respondents to gain insights into the event or phenomenon under examination. The data gathered was treated using a ranking that was used in SOP number five (5), Frequency Distribution and Percentage will be used in SOP number one (1) to determine the problems encountered by the respondents amidst the pandemic, the weighted mean for problems numbers two (2) and three (3); Pearson Product Moment Correlations or simply Pearson r was employed for the number four (4) to determine the significant relationship among the variables.

This study determined the Impact of Pandemic on the Academic Performance of selected English major among third year students at Bestlink College of the Philippines and the results revealed the need for teachers, parents, and school administrators’ involvement to enhance the academic performance of the students amidst the pandemic. The support from teachers, parents, and school administrators will help the students to enhance their academic performance if this new educational system will continue in the next years to come. This study had a significant impact on students’ academic experiences in terms ofphysical, emotional, mental, financial status, attendance, class participation, performance and major exam. The researchers recommended the student engage in academic performance that will help them to have a better future someday.
