Teacher’s Perception: Impacts of Broken Family on the Academic Performance of the Learners at San Gabriel Elementary School
Vol.3, No.2
Abstract
This survey research was conducted to determine the impacts of broken families on the academic performance of the San Gabriel Elementary School learners. It also explains why some children are more on absences and their behaviors at school. A broken family includes unhealthy or severed relationships within the family unit. They are frequently related to divorce; however, they truly can occur in an intact family where more than a few individuals conflict with or are estranged from each other.
The study's respondents are thirty (30) randomly selected teachers at said school. The researchers used a simple random sampling technique, a quantitative method, and a descriptive design to describe the impacts of broken families on the learners' academic performance. The researchers asked their research adviser to assist them in checking the appropriateness and coherence of the tool using face and content validation tools. They asked for the validation of the Department Head of the College of Teacher Education and some expert professors at Bestlink College of the Philippines. The researchers utilized the frequency and percentage to analyze the data.
The research reveals that students with a broken family encountered major problems with attendance, behavior, written tasks, and performance tasks. Based on such findings, we recommend that teachers monitor the attendance of students, their performance in assessments, and facilitate and encourage them to do activities.
