Abstract

The researchers chose this topic to obtain information about the contributing factors on having failing grades of Grade 12 Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM)students. Information that will be gathered may serve as a solution for problems being encountered by students. The purpose of this study was to gather information about the issues and to resolve the consciousness of the researchers about the topic. The importance of this study is that it will serve as a basis for future related studies. The research method that the researchers used was descriptive research design because it is most commonly used in research and application in gathering data for the study. The researchers also used the survey method to gather data from the students. The respondents of the study were Grade 12 students from the Accountancy, Business, and Management Strand. The respondents were selected through convenience sampling because the researchers conducted a survey based on the ability of the students. Parental involvement became an effective concept in motivating Grade 12 ABM students in terms of avoiding failing grades, especially when the parents have good communication and guide their children properly. However, parents’ lack of quality time to help the students showed a negative impact in motivating the students. Parental involvement became an effective concept in terms of achieving academic success, innovations, and inspiration from parents may lead to students’ academic success. Problems encountered by Grade 12 ABM students in developing motivation in their academics in terms of parents’ attention may negatively affect the students. Parents’ attention is highly needed by students for them to perform well academically. Academic pressure may negatively affect the development of Grade 12 ABM students’ motivation. Parents’ involvement in terms of studying was suggested because it will help the students become more active in the teaching-learning process and avoid having failing grades. Promoting the Parents’ and Teachers’ Association should be done to open communication among parents, teachers, and the school administration. Motivating the students to strive hard and monitoring their child’s status in school will help students achieve academic success.
