Abstract

The primary objective of this study is to develop a proactive system that alerts personnel in the event of a fire outbreak. The system is designed to send alert messages via mobile notifications and activate an alarm on the premises. Fire detection methods commonly rely on thermal, smoke, and flame detectors, which serve as early warning systems. These sensors function by sending real-time notifications to mobile phones and fire stations, enhancing response time and fire safety measures. This study employed a descriptive research approach with purposive sampling. Survey questionnaires were used to assess the acceptability of the proposed system in terms of materials used, procedural methodology, durability, smoke detection accuracy, and presentation. A t-test was conducted to analyze the difference in assessments between two groups: five (5) electrical engineers and five (5) electronics and communications engineers. The findings indicate that the proposed system was deemed “acceptable” across all evaluation criteria. The Electrical Engineers provided an overall mean rating of 3.21 (acceptable), while the Electronics and Communications Engineers rated it 3.27 (highly acceptable). The t-computed value of 0.1826 (with a t-critical value of 2.306 at α=0.05) and a degree of freedom of 8 indicated no significant difference between the two groups’ assessments. The assessment of the unified surveillance camera and smoke detection system was evaluated based on materials, procedural methodology, durability, smoke detection accuracy, and presentation. To further improve the system, respondents recommended integrating an emergency application with direct access to fire and police hotlines in the Philippines.
