Abstract

Colorum vehicles pose a significant problem for the nation’s public transportation system as they endanger commuters, worsen traffic congestion, and reduce the income of licensed PUV operators. Traditional solutions require extensive government effort and often inconvenience both commuters and legal operators. This study aims to assess the impact of colorum vehicles on the transportation system, economy, and commuter safety. It also seeks to explore possible solutions to reduce the number of colorum vehicles and identify the necessary steps to address this issue. This study utilized the descriptive research method. The respondents were divided into four groups: 15 drivers, 15 TTMD officers, 15 barangay officials, and 55 commuters, totaling 100 respondents from Barangay Pasong Putik Proper. The primary instrument used for data collection was a survey questionnaire. The gathered data were analyzed using percentage, frequency, total number of respondents, and weighted mean to evaluate the findings effectively. The data revealed that the majority of respondents "Strongly Agree" with the effectiveness of TTMD's actions against colorum vehicles. Most respondents were 18-25 years old, predominantly male, and long-time residents of Barangay Pasong Putik Proper, Quezon City. The respondents agreed that TTMD’s penalties and fines for unauthorized transport services serve as effective deterrents. Additionally, they emphasized the need for TTMD to work closely with local barangay officials to establish a more efficient system for reporting suspicious colorum vehicles. This study recommends that barangay and TTMD officials work together to ensure the safety of commuters and drivers. Operators should invest in insurance, permits, and proper vehicle maintenance. The local government of Quezon City is encouraged to conduct seminars for TTMD and barangay officials to enhance their enforcement strategies against colorum vehicles. Strengthening existing laws or implementing new regulations may also be necessary to improve overall public transportation services.
