Abstract

Traffic discipline plays a crucial role in enhancing road safety, as compliance with traffic regulations and maintaining order on the roads greatly diminishes the likelihood of accidents. Observing speed limits, adhering to traffic signals, and following lane designations can avert collisions and protect lives. Furthermore, disciplined behavior on the roads contributes to a more efficient traffic flow. When drivers adhere to regulations, such as utilizing turn signals, yielding when necessary, and remaining in their designated lanes, it facilitates a consistent flow of traffic, alleviates congestion, and shortens travel durations. Researchers will employ random stratified sampling to choose participants for the study examining the effects of insufficient traffic discipline among drivers and its contribution to road accidents. This sampling method involves segmenting the target population, which consists of traffic enforcers, jeepney drivers, private utility vehicle drivers, and pedestrians along Susano Road in Novaliches, Quezon City, into specific subgroups or "strata" based on their occupations. Each stratum corresponds to a particular subgroup within the overall population, ensuring that all pertinent categories are sufficiently represented in the sample. Participants are then randomly selected from each stratum to partake in the study, facilitating a fair and unbiased representation of the viewpoints and experiences of each subgroup. The participants in the study consisted of four distinct groups: twenty (20) traffic enforcers, one hundred twenty (120) Jeepney drivers, one hundred twenty-five (125) drivers of private utility vehicles, and one hundred twenty-five (125) pedestrians who frequently traversed Susano Road in Novaliches, Quezon City. In total, the study included fifty (50) respondents. The research was conducted to assess the effects of insufficient traffic discipline among drivers, which contributes to road accidents. It intended to categorize participants according to their age, gender, marital status, and educational background, while also investigating the influence of this deficiency in traffic discipline on everyday life, particularly regarding reckless driving, inadequate knowledge, and limited experience.
