Abstract

Youth are often at risk of engaging in illegal activities, which can negatively impact their future. This study examines the role of community volunteerism programs in helping redirect youths’ time toward more constructive and positive activities. The environment surrounding them greatly influences their behavior and attitudes, with many negative factors that could lead to harmful changes. Community volunteer programs offer an opportunity for youths to develop essential social and specialized skills, which can be valuable in their future careers. These programs also provide a sense of involvement and purpose, encouraging youths to embrace helping others rather than engaging in harmful actions. Moreover, volunteerism enhances leadership abilities and promotes a deeper understanding of citizenship, contributing to their personal growth and future success. This study used a descriptive research design with a quantitative approach. A simple random sampling technique was employed to select 20 SK Barangay personnel and 40 community citizens from Barangay Baesa to participate in the research. Data was collected using a survey questionnaire, which was personally distributed by the researchers. The results of the study show that the majority of respondents "strongly agreed" that engaging the youths of Barangay Baesa in community volunteerism programs helps them develop positive traits and competencies that will contribute to a brighter future. These programs also enable youths to enhance their talents and skills, which are crucial for their future careers. Moreover, the volunteerism initiatives positively influence the youths' social connections, help establish constructive goals for community development, and foster strong work ethics. In addition, the programs play a significant role in reducing the risk of youths becoming involved in illegal activities. The researchers recommend the implementation of more targeted programs that focus on developing skills, enhancing social interactions, and promoting physical and mental well-being. These programs should aim to improve social skills and reduce the risk of youths becoming involved in illegal activities. Furthermore, the researchers suggest that future studies should continue to explore and build upon the findings of this research to further enhance the effectiveness of community volunteerism programs in shaping the youth's future.
