Formative and summative assessments are various methods used by teachers to evaluate students' learning progress. These assessments help determine how students study and what they learn from their teachers. By using these evaluation methods, students can improve their skills and understanding. Formative assessments, conducted during the instructional process, provide ongoing feedback and information to help students enhance their study strategies and performance. Summative assessments, on the other hand, focus on evaluating students' overall learning at the end of an instructional period, helping to identify areas that need improvement. This research study employed a descriptive-quantitative research design to explore the perceptions of the respondents. The participants were Senior High School teachers from Bestlink College of the Philippines. A cluster sampling technique was used to select 15 teachers from different sections, who were surveyed using a questionnaire as the instrument. The survey was administered face-to-face. The data collected was analyzed and categorized into four descriptive labels: highly improved, improved, poor improvement, and no improvement. The results of the respondents can be described in terms of age, gender, highest educational attainment, subjects handled, and length of experience, which collectively account for 100%. Additionally, the common assessments used by the respondents—such as practical examinations, quizzes, and activities—were reflected by an overall weighted mean of 3.76. Lastly, the effects of using common assessments in terms of observation, questioning strategies, and time consumption were supported by an overall weighted mean of 3.61. These findings indicate a shared perspective among the respondents that common assessments are significantly utilized to enhance overall performance. To conclude, the data underscore a consensus among the Senior High School teachers regarding the effects of common assessments. The study highlights that while common assessments are effectively utilized, continued improvement is essential. It is recommended that further enhancements be made to optimize the impact of assessments on student learning and performance.
