Challenges Encountered by Grade 12 General Academic Strand Students during Work Immersion: Basis for Proposed Action Plan

Abstract

Work immersion is a preparation for the real world by training students to work in a company and eventually excel in a specific career. The school should ensure that students will gain various competencies that will be beneficial in the future. The researchers conducted this study to know what are the challenges that students encountered in their work immersion. The researchers used a quantitative descriptive method. The researchers used purposive sampling to meet the criteria. A total of 50 Grade 12 General Academic Strand students were selected as respondents. The results showed that with a weighted mean of 3.87, male respondents strongly agreed that knowledge is one of the challenges in work immersion. With the weighted mean of 4.5, female respondents very strongly agreed that knowledge is one of the challenges in work immersion. In terms of skills, with the weighted means of 4.38 for male respondents and 4.28 for female respondents, both groups of respondents strongly agreed that scale is one of the challenges encountered in work immersion. With the weighted mean of 4.07 for male respondents and 4.32 for female respondents, both groups of respondents strongly agreed that work is one of the challenges in work immersion. With the overall weighted means of 4.10 for male respondents and 4.32 for female respondents, both groups of respondents strongly agreed that development and work ethics are the challenges encountered in work immersion. 1. Based on the findings of the two groups, students encountered challenges in work immersion. 2. The two groups of respondents strongly agreed that having work immersion helps the students improve their knowledge, skill, and work ethics. 3. The findings of the study proved that work immersion is effective in preparing students to become ready for future work. 4. Having immersion in Grade 12 is helpful for students to get started with work 5. Based on the findings of the study, the following action plan can be proposed to overcome the challenges encountered by students in work immersion. 6. The main objective of 'on-the-job training' is to acquaint the students formally with a real-life workplace environment. 7. Immersion students typically develop greater cognitive flexibility.
