Abstract

The goal of this study is to explore the study habits of student-athletes at Bestlink College of the Philippines and how these habits relate to their academic performance. Balancing the demands of athletics and academics presents unique challenges for student-athletes. While effective study habits are essential for academic success, factors such as time limitations, fatigue, and lack of support can impede their development. This study seeks to understand how student-athletes juggle their academic and athletic responsibilities and stresses the importance of providing resources and support to enhance their study habits. This study utilized a quantitative research approach with a descriptive-correlational design to examine the relationship between study habits and the demographic profiles of student-athletes. The respondents were aged 16-20, primarily male, and had a monthly family income of ₱10,000 or less. The composite mean scores indicated a strong agreement on study habits related to time management, support, study environment, and motivation. However, the statistical analysis revealed no significant relationship between study habits and the demographic characteristics of the participants. The demographic analysis revealed that most respondents were aged 16-20, male, and came from families with a monthly income of ₱10,000 or below. The student-athletes showed strong study habits, particularly in areas such as time management, support, study environment, and motivation. However, no significant correlation was found between study habits and demographic factors. The primary challenges included managing academic responsibilities alongside athletic training, fatigue affecting concentration, and navigating the transition after their athletic careers. The findings highlight that male student-athletes aged 16-20 face significant challenges in balancing their academic and athletic commitments.  Recommendations:  School Administrators: Provide access to nutritionists and strength coaches to help students maintain their physical health and performance. Student-Athletes: Create a structured study schedule to manage academic responsibilities alongside sports. Coaches, Teachers, and Parents: Foster open communication to support the academic and emotional needs of student-athletes. School Administrators: Offer financial support and scholarships to reduce the economic burdens on student-athletes. Coaches, Teachers, and Parents: Be attentive to the mental and emotional challenges faced by student-athletes. This study provides important insights into the challenges of student-athletes and offers actionable recommendations to improve their ability to balance academics and athletics.
