Abstract

Smart homes represent a major advancement in home technology, allowing homeowners to control their appliances and security systems. This system provides a user-friendly interface that enhances the convenience and safety of home management. The system utilizes microprocessors such as the ESP8266 for home automation, the Arduino Uno with humidity, gas, and temperature sensors for the alarm system, and the ESP32-CAM for surveillance. Lastly, the Arduino Uno with RFID, biometrics, and a laser diode is used for enhanced security.   Additionally, a solar power system setup is included to address electrical power outages, and manual switches are implemented to address issues such as system failure, security concerns, and Wi-Fi disconnections. The system offers homeowners or clients convenience and enhanced security. The researchers used the Experimental Prototyping Methodology to create this Smart Home System. The 2D and 3D project designs were developed for prototype visualizations using the AutoCAD application, whereas the MIT App Inventor was employed to create the software application for the Smart Home Security System.   The descriptive method was used to interpret the 5-point Likert scale in the survey methodology, and the Purposive Sampling Technique was used to illustrate the demographic profile. The descriptive-type survey questionnaire method was used to assess the perception of the 50 respondents. The results of the testing for components and sensors display the circuit connections, design of the prototype, and testing results. The ESP8266 microprocessor was checked and successfully connected to Wi-Fi.   Depending on the speed of the available wireless connection, the automated switching process of the Smart Home System within a 20–30 feet range of the Alexa Echo Dot took 1–5 seconds. The Arduino Uno and the 2.45GHz Bluetooth module exhibited effective communication with the mobile application within a 10-meter radius. The system is capable of controlling devices using Alexa, with manual switches as a backup. According to the conducted test, the system delivers the best response when a strong Wi-Fi connection is available. The five security features—biometrics, laser security, alarm system, RFID, and surveillance—add layers of safety to the property. The smart home automation system, using the ESP8266 and Arduino Uno for security with a Wi-Fi connection, is effective in providing security and home automation.
