Abstract

In today's ever-evolving educational landscape, the effective integration of Mathematics and English as foundational subjects is crucial for fostering holistic and meaningful learning outcomes across various disciplines. This research aims to examine the proper utilization of Mathematics and English among Grade 11 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students at Bestlink College of the Philippines during the School Year 2023-2024. By analyzing how these subjects are applied in their academic journey, this study seeks to highlight their impact on students' overall learning experience and proficiency in diverse areas of study. This study utilized a descriptive research design to examine the opinions of the respondents. A survey questionnaire, validated by a panel of experts in language and research, was implemented to collect data. The respondents consisted of 150 Grade 11 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students from Bestlink College of the Philippines, selected from 11 different sections. Descriptive statistical methods, including frequency and percentage, mean, Likert scale, and ranking, were used to analyze and interpret the gathered data, ensuring a comprehensive presentation of the findings and their implications. The data revealed that students strongly agreed with statements regarding the proper utilization of Mathematics and English subjects, as reflected in their ratings for comprehension (3.29), critical thinking (2.41), and concentration (3.53). Regarding strategies to enhance their academic skills, Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students perceived communication as the most effective solution (22.9%), while peer teaching was considered the least important (17.8%) among the five proposed strategies. It is recommended that students minimize unnecessary distractions, such as phone use, to enhance concentration and maximize learning. Additionally, having a strong support system can help them improve their academic performance and effectively utilize both Mathematics and English in their studies.
