Abstract

This study aims to assess the challenges encountered by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in navigating narrow alleys and implementing fire prevention measures in Novaliches Proper, Quezon City. It seeks to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency response strategies by evaluating compliance with BFP fire safety regulations, identifying strengths and weaknesses in existing measures, and providing recommendations for improvement to optimize fire prevention and response efforts in the community. This study utilized a descriptive quantitative research design and employed a survey instrument to collect data from a purposive sample of 50 respondents, including residents, Barangay personnel, and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel in Novaliches Proper, Quezon City. The survey contained questions assessing the effectiveness of the BFP’s fire response strategies, the challenges encountered in emergency situations, and respondents' awareness of fire safety measures. One of the challenges in this study was obtaining a representative sample due to the diverse population of Barangay Novaliches Proper. To address this, purposive sampling was implemented to ensure that respondents provided varied perspectives and relevant experiences. The study highlighted the necessity of regularly clearing narrow alleys of parked vehicles, trash, and other obstructions to ensure unobstructed access for fire trucks and equipment. It also emphasized the importance of developing well-planned response routes, identifying the most efficient and safest paths for fire trucks to reach fire scenes. Furthermore, the findings revealed that the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has been proactive in enhancing fire safety awareness among the residents of Barangay Novaliches Proper. This was achieved through various initiatives, including house-to-house visits, fire drills in schools and communities, and training programs to educate individuals on proper emergency response during fire incidents. This study recommends promoting continuous training in specialized areas such as technical rescue, hazardous materials management, and advanced firefighting techniques to enhance overall effectiveness. Additionally, it suggests conducting regular training drills focused on maneuvering equipment and hoses through narrow alleyways. These drills will help firefighters refine their deployment techniques, improve coordination, and strengthen communication in confined spaces, ultimately ensuring a more efficient and effective emergency response.
