Challenges Encountered by Grade 12 General Academic Strand Working Students

One of the problems that the students are facing nowadays is the lack of financial support, which forces students to work while studying. This research was conducted to determine the challenges encountered by Grade 12 working students. The researchers used quantitative descriptive research design to measure the quantity or amount, compared it with the result in past research, and attempted to project for a future period. The researcher utilized purposive sampling to choose 50 Grade 12 General Academic Strand students to assess the challenges encountered by working students. For variable 1, with the weighted means of 7.75 for male respondents and 4.0 for female respondents, both groups strongly agreed that the financial aspect is one of the challenges encountered as working students. For variable 2, with the weighted mean of 3.50 for male respondents and 3.04 for female respondents, both groups strongly agreed that time management is one of the challenges encountered by working students. For variable 3, with the weighted mean of 3.59 for male respondents and 3.51 for female respondents, both groups strongly agreed that priorities are one of the challenges encountered by working students. With the overall weighted mean of 3.61 for female respondents, both groups strongly agreed that financial aspects, time management, and priorities are the challenges encountered by working students. Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations were drawn. The researchers recommended that in terms of the financial aspect, working students should be realistic in managing their financial status. In terms of time management, working students should prioritize their studies over their jobs. Teachers with working students in their class must give special projects to complete their records and give them more time to compile the requirements in school. Hence, working students should handle their finances effectively to support their needs at home and school. Both groups of respondents agreed that working students encountered challenges. Working students must focus on their studies more than their job to get a better job after graduating and maintain their job to supply their needs.
