Abstract

The Bakas River in Norzagaray, Bulacan, is an iconic tourist destination with a rich history and cultural significance. Despite its potential, the river remains underrated in the Philippines due to limited development and its susceptibility to typhoons. This study seeks to explore how river conservation can be integrated with tourism development to stimulate the local economy, create job opportunities, and enhance the quality of life for both tourists and residents. The goal is to find a sustainable balance between promoting the river as a tourist attraction and preserving its natural environment. This study utilizes a quantitative approach with a descriptive design to examine respondents' perspectives on the operational procedures at Bakas River to enhance tourism in Norzagaray, Bulacan. A total of 136 respondents, including officials, residents, and tourists, were selected through purposive sampling. Data was gathered through in-person surveys and analyzed using a descriptive rating method. The tourism industry at Bakas River is influenced by accessibility, safety, security, and economic status, with stakeholders recognizing the importance of these factors. However, there are differences in opinions regarding public transportation and staff support. Key challenges include limited space, poor road conditions, lack of transportation options, and frequent power outages. To enhance the overall experience for stakeholders, it is recommended that the government focus on improving infrastructure, implementing stronger safety measures, and fostering economic development to ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of the industry. The study of Bakas River's tourism industry is vital for strategic planning and fostering sustainable growth. It examines factors such as accessibility, safety, economic conditions, recreational activities, and infrastructure. The insights gathered serve key stakeholders, including barangay officials, residents, tourists, school administrators, researchers, and government agencies. By addressing these aspects, the study aims to improve visitor experiences, expand economic opportunities, and promote environmental conservation. The recommendations focus on creating a dynamic and responsible tourism industry in Norzagaray, Bulacan, benefiting both local communities and visitors.
