Abstract

Efficient goods transportation is essential for sustainable development, leading to the integration of IoT and telematics in freight operations. These technologies enable real-time data analysis, providing insights into vehicle performance and cargo movement. This shift to a data-driven approach is crucial in addressing the environmental impact of freight operations, which heavily rely on fossil fuels. The project aims to enhance freight operations through real-time tracking without physical sensors, utilizing weather APIs, traffic patterns, carbon emissions measurements, and vehicle diagnostics via telematics for dynamic route optimization. The project employed the Agile Scrum methodology, ensuring structured sprint planning and execution for specific features. Daily stand-up meetings facilitated continuous progress, while sprint reviews gathered valuable feedback. Continuous integration enabled frequent code updates, and collaboration tools streamlined communication. Agile principles prioritized customer satisfaction and adaptability, allowing the team to effectively meet project goals while maintaining a dynamic and responsive development process. The project optimized freight operations for sustainability through real-time tracking and route optimization, leading to increased efficiency, reduced delivery times, lower fuel consumption, and minimized operational costs and carbon footprint. Real-time analytics provided actionable insights for informed decision-making. The system includes features such as real-time chat, fuel consumption cost estimation, and KPI-based delivery and environmental reporting. Additionally, cross-platform compatibility allows users to access the system via a progressive web app, ensuring flexibility and convenience. Stakeholder and user feedback shaped the system’s functionality, improving both efficiency and user experience. The results demonstrate significant improvements in freight operations, including enhanced efficiency, cost reduction, and minimized environmental impact. Real-time tracking and analytics provided crucial insights for decision-making. Stakeholder and user feedback played a key role in refining system functionality and user experience, contributing to the project’s success.
